An Echocardiogram is used to assess the circulation and function of the heart muscle. Ultrasound images of the heart will show the movement of the blood in each heart chamber and as it passes through the heart valves. The heart chambers and the heart walls are measured for size and function.
The test will last approximately 30-45 minutes. There is no preparation needed for the echo. You will be able to eat and take your medications as usual.
You will be asked to remove all clothing from the waist up and put on a gown. The sonographer will place patches to record your EKG during the test. Warm gel and an ultrasound probe will be placed on your chest to perform the test.
The results of the test will be sent to your physician who will report the results to you after reviewing your record. Please follow up with your physician for any further recommendations after testing.
Free parking is available at all of our locations in Springfield. If you are unable to keep this appointment, please notify Prairie Centralized Scheduling at 217-788-4455.
